Expanding Your 20/20 Vision by Looking

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

A few years ago, James Gilmore put together observational tools where “looking” in various ways is a fundamental innovation approach.  He views “looking” as a neglected skill that helps to inform and provide insights about innovation.

In this workshop, we will explore each of the six Looking Glasses or Lenses that Jim outlines in his book:  Look:  A Practical Guide for Improving Your Observational Skills.  We will practice each of the looking glasses on a topic, experience the use of these six glasses in a virtual way, and show how the Six Looking Glasses can improve your 20-20 vision in a practical way.

What will you learn or experience as a result of this program or session?
  • Provide background on Jim Gilmore’s Six Looking Glasses.
  • Improve observing skills with tips on how you can use this in a virtual environment so that your vision goes beyond 20-20!
  • Have a practical experience using Six Looking Glasses.

How might the content of this program or session change your perceptions, habits, ways of working, or view on the world?
  • Explore observation by using six different glasses or lenses to improve observational skills for innovation.
  • Use of simple tools to stretch your vision and go beyond mere 20-20 vision.
  • Spending time to observe, anytime, anyplace, virtually or in person because you never know what observations will lead to innovation.

How might you apply what you learn or experience in this program or session?
  • Expanding the toolset of observational research for professional and personal purposes, including using these tools virtually.
  • Worksheet on what each of the Six Looking Glasses are and how they might be applied, in person and virtually.
  • Use of a practical, virtual example to show how Six Looking Glasses can be applied.
